  • 01/04/2020 Letter From the Head

    Thu 02 Apr 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you are all safe and well and that everything is going as well as it can during these challenging times. It has been lovely to hear about some of the fantastic learning that has been going on at home. Please do continue to send your achievements to your class teachers so that they can share it with the class!

The teachers have been working hard to share ideas, websites and challenges on our school website pages. We hope that you’ve been finding these useful? We will be taking a short break from this over the Easter break, as staff will be continuing to work hard in school to provide emergency care for our key worker and vulnerable children. However, please be sure to check it regularly for updates and new ideas from Monday 20th April, when the learning challenges will continue.

In addition to emergency care, staff are also working hard to write the children’s reports, as well as planning and preparation for when school re-opens. We do not yet know when this will be, but look forward to when we can open our school doors again and continue our super learning journey.

During our last week here in school, I made a promise to year 2 that at whatever point we re-open, we would still organise some of their leaver events – the parents’ afternoon tea and leavers disco. We will organise dates for these as soon as we are able.

Please do share with the children that we miss them, think about them often and can’t wait to see them all again as soon as we can.

    Stay safe!

    Elisa Basnett

  • Parent Update - Re Corona Virus

    Tue 17 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers,

    Cornovirus Update

Following the government announcements yesterday, I wanted to clarify one of the enhanced measures that has now been put into immediate effect.

If anyone in your household develops COVID-19 symptoms – high temperature and/or cough, there is now a requirement for whole household isolation for 14 days. Please contact us on day 1 of absence if this affects your child and their absence will be recorded accordingly for 2 weeks. You will not need to call in school every day of this period. Given that the recommendations are changing daily, I will notify you if there are any further updates regarding this.

We are of course continuing to monitor the health and well-being of all of our pupils. Should they become unwell, please support us by being available to collect your child at short notice.

The immediate implication for Brownsover Community School, is that we now have a significant number of staff who are having to self-isolate. In order to try and maintain as much of our school’s normal provision as possible, it has become necessary for us to make the decision to proceed with a partial closure.

With effect from tomorrow (Wednesday 18th March) nursery and Play & Learn classes will close until Easter. I anticipate that they will resume as normal on Monday 20th April following the Easter holiday, but this may change following any further Government decisions. The rest of school will remain open as usual unless we are informed otherwise.

In order to support the running of vital services, we will continue to provide provision for any nursery and Play & Learn children whose parents work in the NHS, 999 emergency services or are teachers. If this applies to you please contact Rosie Hercock on 01788 547639 so that arrangements can be made.

Staff are currently developing work to put on the class pages in the homework section of the school website, this will be set up over the next day or two for those pupils who are currently self-isolating.

Thank you for your continued support during this challenging time.
    Mrs Elisa Basnett

  • Parent Update - Re Corona Virus

    Mon 16 Mar 2020

    16th March 2020

    Dear Parent/Carer,

As the situation around COVID-19 escalates nationally, we are preparing for the local situation to change and for more confirmed cases to be diagnosed. We are being guided by the experts at Public Health England who have established stringent criteria for if and when a school should close and for how long.

Head Teachers from schools across Rugby have met and have agreed, that until we are advised otherwise, we will maintain business as usual and keep disruption to our children's learning to a minimum. However, the health and safety of the children, staff and wider community has to be our priority and we have to play our part in preventing the spread of the virus.

In light of yesterday’s government announcement that the UK is moving from the ‘Containment’ to the ‘Delay’ stage of its pandemic contingency plan, Brownsover Community School will remain open as normal and will continue to provide morning and after school clubs and our usual extra-curricular activities.

However, following government guidance to minimise social interactions as far as possible and to restrict the possibility of the spread of the virus, schools in Rugby will be limiting interactions with the wider community by cancelling:

    • Parent Consultation Meetings (WB 23rd March) These will be re-scheduled after Easter – see below
    • Parent Assemblies (Super Learner)
    • Healthy Lifestyles Day (20th March)
    • Educational Trips (Year 2 – Warwick Castle) We hope to re-arrange this for the summer term
    • Swimming (Year 2 – Thursday afternoons)
    • FABs/Social Events (Coffee am, Cake sale, Easter Egg Hunt)
    • Easter church Service @ Christchurch (2nd April)
    • Staff Training offsite
    • Inter-school sports events/competitions
    • PlayTots (Thursday am)

To support the school in this ‘social-distancing’ policy we would ask parents to limit physical communications with school, and where possible, use email or the telephone to contact us. We would also ask that parents/carers of children in Bridges drop children off & collect at the Bridges classroom door, rather than entering the building. They will be signed in and out by staff.

These measures will take effect from Monday 16th March. All events will be rearranged as soon as the situation improves.

We will continue to update you regularly as the situation progresses. We would also recommend you continue to look at the following sources of information to keep yourself informed of all the latest information and advice:

    • The Department for Education has established a helpline to answer questions about COVID-19 related to education. Staff, parents and young people can contact the helpline as follows: Phone: 0800 046 8687 Email: DfE.coronavirushelpline@education.gov.uk Opening hours: 8am to 6pm (Monday to Friday)

    • Detailed information and advice for the public and returning travellers can be found on the NHS.uk website (and will be regularly updated): nhs.uk/coronavirus

    • Further information for the public about the situation can be found here (and will be regularly updated): gov.uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the-public.

If you are worried about symptoms or need specific advice please visit 111.nhs.uk or call NHS 111. Do not go directly to your GP or other healthcare environment.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Yours sincerely

    Mrs E Basnett, Head Teacher

  • Rugby In Bloom Awards 2019

    Thu 19 Sep 2019

A few of the children went to the Benn Hall during the day to collect our platinum award for Rugby in Bloom, followed by a visit to the Mayors Parlour, where Brownsover Bear tried on one of the Councillors hats and he and the Matter monster sat on the Mayors desk!!   The wonderful  Mr & Mrs Young also joined the children!

Then at the full evening awards ceremony our fantastic school picked up a special award having been selected by Heart of England for our outstanding contribution to Bloom, whilst a number of our children received awards for gardening.

    Two Fabulous events!

  • Platinum Rugby In Bloom Award!

    Tue 08 Aug 2017
We are delighted to have once again been awarded a platinum Rugby In Bloom Award. The judges were all very impressed with their visit, which this year, reflected the theme of the jet engine. The children took the judges on a continental journey to explore all of the plants and flowers we have grown.
