BCS Parents/Carers - Update from the Headteacher - 6 April 2022

Just a few updates to share before the Easter break on Friday 8th April:
Staff changes after Easter
Both Mrs Gordon and Mrs Phillips our Year 1 Australia teachers, will be starting their maternity leave shortly after Easter. I know that you will join me in wishing them both the very best as they await their very special deliveries! In the meantime, we are delighted that Miss Crane will be joining the Year 1 team as Australia class teacher. Miss Crane has been working in Year 2 here at Brownsover since Christmas and we looking forward to her staying with us for this very special role!
Start/end school times
After Easter, we will be reverting to our pre-pandemic school start and end times. This means that school will start at 8.50am and finish at 3.00pm for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Make sure that you re-set those alarms so that everyone arrives and collects on time!
We will be continuing to use our one-way drop off and collection system.
Nursery times will remain the same as they currently are.
Covid update
Over the last week, we have been given new guidance on ‘Learning to Live with Covid’. Although we have relaxed the use of face coverings, we still have clinically vulnerable staff, parents and children so we ask that you continue to respect those that wish to continue to wear their masks and keep a suitable distance when meeting others in school or on the playground. We will continue to encourage the children to exercise good hand hygiene by washing and sanitising their hands when appropriate.
FABS cake Sale
Our end of term cake sales are back! The FABs team will be on the playground on Friday with a selection of cakes. All cake donations gratefully received and can be brought into school on Friday morning. Don’t forget to bring your pennies to enjoy a yummy treat at the end of the day!!
Current Ukraine situation
With the current on-going situation in Ukraine, we continue to see and hear much sadness in the news. We have not directly spoken to the whole school about the developing situation in Ukraine as we appreciate this is a very sensitive matter and parents will want to approach this ever changing situation with their child/ren in different ways. However, please be assured that as a staff, we all continue to be very vigilant to the children’s emotions and concerns, regardless of what they are, and will support children either on an individual, group or phase basis as we deem appropriate. The children are aware they can speak to any member of the team and we are there to answer their questions as factually and age appropriately as we can. I have attached some links below for you to access with your child, should you feel this necessary. Please view them beforehand so you are fully prepared for their questions. As a school community, we will continue to pray for the safety of all people involved in this crisis.

It has been lovely to receive some messages of thanks following our donation of the Care Bags to St. Cross Hospital. Here are a few of the kind words we have had…
