Computing

Computing Intent

As digital explorers we make sure that all staff and pupils have the opportunity to develop their potential through the safe and effective use of computing across the curriculum.

We recognise that the development of computing is constantly changing at home and in the community, so we adapt to stay relevant and up-to-date. As well as being an important curriculum requirement, we believe that the ability to use computing safely, independently and effectively is a vital skill in teaching and learning across the entire curriculum.

At our school we use computing to enhance the curriculum by helping pupils acquire the skills to use a wide range of appropriate computing tools. They are supported to use these safely, effectively, with purpose and enjoyment whilst using computing as a teaching aid to engage and excite.

Computing Implementation

We follow the Warwickshire Scheme of Work for Key Stage One and use meaningful cross curricular links to ensure learning is relevant and engaging using real life skills. We have screens in each classroom and a whole class set of Chromebooks for the children to access and use. In the EYFS technology is integrated into our daily teaching so that our children are exposed to real life examples of how and where technology can be used to enhance learning. Online Safety is taught throughout the year during Computing sessions and as a discrete unit when celebrating Safer Internet Day each year.

Computing Impact

Our high quality Computing curriculum aims to develop a range of valuable technological skills that can be used across all subject areas. As pupils progress through the EYFS and Key Stage One they will become increasingly confident in using a range of technologies and programs to develop and apply their skills. This supports them to become computing explorers, online safety experts and to be able to communicate the skills that they are practising and how these link to their everyday lives. The impact of the Computing Curriculum and the associated skills are assessed through monitoring of the subject against the age related expectations with a green, orange and red rating. It is also assessed in response to the constantly changing nature of technology in the world that we live in.
